Astra Frame Lock (Hamon finish)
The Astra is my EDC folder design. It is made to be a beautiful little piece of art in your pocket. I have always felt that titanium was an other worldly material and after working with wood and simple steels for so long these folding knives feel a little alien to me in the best possible way 😆. As a result I have given them an interstellar theme. The handles are anodized black titanium with anodized bronze screws and clip. The backspacer is aluminum bronze with a shooting star engraved on the outside and on the inside of the handle I have inscribed "soli deo gloria" meaning to God alone be glory. I am a christian and believe all my work reflects the infinite creator's glory and I always want to point others to that. This is something that artists, like Johann Sebastian Bach with his compositions, have done for hundred of years and I am glad to carry on the tradition.
The blade is running on ceramic bearings and has a hidden stop pin in a track in the blade. I made one blade from a beautiful and clean AEB-L stainless which is such a pleasure to use and I have been very happy with the performance of the steel thus far. The other two are made with W2 and have a differential heat treat and have been finished with a Hamon finish. This is a very old technique used by the Japanese on their swords. It not only gave their blades more flexibility so they would not break in battle. In this context we are mainly concerned with how they look 😎.
Each knife I make comes with a Certificate of Authenticity with the details of the knife laser engraved on the aluminum card.
