“Resolved to Live With All My Might While I do Live”
-Jonathan Edwards
My name is Curtis Haaland and my beautiful wife Abby and I reside in the mountains of East TN. I truly believe we were created to “Know God and enjoy Him forever.” The Creator of the world has instilled in all of us a desire to make and design, and I am so thankful God has allowed me to do that through the art of knife-making.
Growing up in a family of artists I learned to love working with my hands, and began appreciating the world of arts and crafts from a young age. It wasn’t until high school that I began to dive in to the world of knife making. My dad asked me if I wanted to try knife making, and before long we were piddling away in the old shed in our backyard. I was 17 when I forged my first blade, made from mild steel using cheap tools and a makeshift forge. And it was at that moment I fell in love with the craft of knife making.
One of the things I love about knives is that they can be both a tool and an expression of art all in one. I love designing my knives with utilitarian purposes, while at the same time giving them a unique and creative design element. From the designing to forging, grinding, and handle making I want each and every stage of the knife making process to show-forth intention and purpose. I work hard to make my knives in such a way so that the lines flow nicely together, capturing the eye of the beholder. I love the challenge that each knife brings to me personally, and I always strive to make my current knife better than the one that preceded it. I love all the possibilities knife-making presents; whether through different types of steel, a new Damascus pattern, or a unique piece of wood, there is always room for growth and trying new things. I’m also a firm believer that every knife should have its own handmade leather sheath, which is what you will get every time you will purchase a knife from me.
I am so thankful for each and every person who buys my knives and supports my business. By God’s grace and your support I am able to do what I love and provide for my family. I hope you enjoying using these knives as much as I enjoy making them.
