Mango Petty (SOLD OUT)
This mini chef will be a versatile kitchen utility, great for on the board cutting, but also nice and compact. The blade is forged from 3/4” W1 round stock with a hamon finish. The hamon is an old technique made up by the Japanese for their samurai swords, and I have adopted it here as a homage to that tradition.
This blade has an auto hamon, meaning when I quenched the blade the edge got hard but the spots you see on the blade didn't cool down fast enough to harden, creating this unique finish on the blade. It has a full tang handle construction with curly mango scales curved in to the bolster. The spine and bolster are mirror polished and the handle is held with copper hardware. The angle of the blade allows for full knuckle clearance on the cutting board. The blade cover is made from a sturdy 9oz Skirting leather from Wickett & Craig.
